Le club est fondé en 1919 comme une association pour aider les jeunes en difficulté à pratiquer un sport dans le quartier de Te Aro, basé à Wellington. Le club ouvre une section football en 1929.

La création du club

 

Le club est fondé en 1999 sous le nom de "Football Kingz FC". En 2005, l'équipe change de nom en "New Zealand Knights" lorsqu'il rejoint le nouveau championnat professionnel australien, la A-League. Le club est dissous en raison de ces mauvais résultats et de son public peu nombreux. Les Knights ont été remplacés par un autre club néo-zélandais en A-League, les Wellington Phoenix.

Le club est fondé en 1886 sous le nom de "North Shore", ce qui en fait le plus ancien club de football en Nouvelle-Zélande mais également en Océanie. Le club fusionne en 1933 avec "Belmont" et devient "North Shore United". À la suite d'un parrainage, l'équipe devient "Hanimax United" de 1979 à 1985.
