La création du club

Le club est fondé en 1999 sous le nom de "Football Kingz FC". En 2005, l'équipe change de nom en "New Zealand Knights" lorsqu'il rejoint le nouveau championnat professionnel australien, la A-League. Le club est dissous en raison de ces mauvais résultats et de son public peu nombreux. Les Knights ont été remplacés par un autre club néo-zélandais en A-League, les Wellington Phoenix.
